10 Point; 152 Gross;

Here is a picture of my 10 point archery kill taken on Sunday, November 4th, 2007, near Albion, NY. We unofficially scored him (gross) at 152. A friend of mine had recently purchased a piece of property during archery season and we were out exploring the property late that afternoon, trying to get familiar with it before gun season started. It was getting late, about 4:00pm, and so we both found trees to set up in about 100 yards apart.

Almost immediately, I tried some rattling and within 15 minutes, I heard something coming. At first I thought it was another hunter walking through, but then I saw a small tree shaking like crazy as he was rubbing his antlers on it. I grunted twice before he started slamming into the tree. I knew at that point he had heard me. I still was not able to see him but I had a feeling he was a good one. He then stepped away from the tree and gave me a good view of his antlers - wow! He continued walking towards me and you could tell he was on a mission. He was enraged, somewhat stomping with each step and thrashed every small branch that was in his way. Let me tell you, it was not easy to concentrate on the shot!

I drew back when he was within 40 yards and I tried to stop him at about 20 but he didn't hear me. He continued walking towards me and I finally got him stopped at 10 yards. The arrow slammed through him and into the ground and I knew it was a solid hit. I heard him crash at about 70 yards. Although my friend wasn't close enough to see the action, he heard the entire thing. Immediately after the shot, he called my cell and said "tell me you got him!" What an experience, especially to have a good friend along to share it!
