Steve Autin Jr., Troupsburg, 1 1/4" spurs!

Rob Taylor (TheEmperor), 2008 Spring Gobbler, Steuben County, New York
May 17, 2008, 19 LBS, 11 1/4" Beard, 7/8" Spurs

10:00 A.M. I heard the birds from across the road at 9:00. By the time I got over there, the gobbling had stopped. I sat near a field edge to try and figure out the who, what, where of the situation. Pretty soon I heard a hen not too far away from me. A few minutes later, two hens came feeding through the field about 40 yards away. There were grasshoppers everywhere.

Pretty soon I see three red heads behind the hens and 10 yards closer. The middle bird moved forward and started to fan. I could not believe the beard on it. The other two Toms were jakes.

The lead Tom walked in front of my gun highly alert as another gobbler to my left suddenly appeared and was closing ground. I moved my gun 6" to shoot and it saw me. It started walking, fast, away from me but it could not walk fast enough. Down he went.

11 1/4" beard. Notice how it naturally splits. It looks like two beards but it isn't. Just one.
