Mitchell DeHond, Spring Gobbler, Churchville, New York
May 03, 2008, 16 1/2 lb. Jake with 4 inch beard and 1/4 inch spurs.

Mitch is 12 and this is his first season hunting. On Sunday of the Youth Season he had 3 gobblers come within 5 yards of him gobbling like thunder! They were drumming and gobbling like crazy! Unfortunately Mitch could only stare them down as he is right handed and they came up on his right side. They then circled around out into the field toward our decoys. I stopped them and Mitch got off a shot but missed.

So the following Saturday we went out to another hot spot. We heard gobbling as soon as we entered the woods. Within 20 minutes of sitting down we had a large Jake strut by us at 30 yards towards the dekes and Mitch laid the smack down on him. Only problem after three times out is that Mitch thinks that turkey hunting is a piece of cake. Well with his track record I am going to make sure my newest and best hunting buddy is always with me from now on!
