1939 was the first year New York offered a regulated deer season after prohibiting deer hunting for many years. Homer Boylan's Non-Typical still stands as the New York Non-Typical GUN Record as does Roosevelt Luckey's New York Typical GUN Record which was also taken in the exact same year just a stones throw away in Hume, New York.

Non-Typical scoring is tricky. Contrary to popular belief, Non-Typical bucks do have deductions before the final gross measurement of abnormal antlers are added to the base score. In short, the main tines and beams of the buck are measured and differences are deducted just like a typical buck. Those differences are subtracted from the gross base score and then the abnormalties are added. Use the link above to see the official score sheet.
