DEC Looking for Three Missing Bears in Allegany/Livingston Counties
Friday, July 18, 2008
If you are in the Allegany or Livingston County area and you see a bear with a blue radio collar on it, someone might be looking for it. The DEC is looking for three bears that stopped transmitting last fall.

What is odd is that it sounds like all three bears were taken from the Addison area and re-located after nuisance problems. So what are the chances that all three bears re-located from one area would lose transmission? We don't know because there is no indication that the bears ever spent time with one another. Nonetheless, the DEC is looking for them.

Obviously, there is no way to know if a bear has a broken transmitter just by looking at it. We suppose you would have to call the DEC and then see if they could locate the bear you just saw in the general area where you just saw it.

In any event, if you see a bear with a blue collar then call the DEC at (877) 457-5680 or by e-mail at region8@gw.dec.state.ny.us

You can read more about the missing bears ay WIVB-TV out of Buffalo.
