This one comes from From the New York DEC Website.

Hunting licenses for the 2008 New York Hunting Season will go on sale Monday, August 18th.

New York hunting licenses can be purchased at any one of 1500 hunting license outlets throughout the State of New York or you can buy them online through DECALS. You can also print out an application at the DEC Website and mail it in.

If you have any questions about New York Hunting Licenses you can call the DECALS Call Center at (866) 933-2257. Most of the time you can find answers to your questions on the DEC Website, on our message boards, or by visiting a DECALS outlet in person.

  • New York now has a Junior Big Game Hunting license that allows 14-15 year olds to hunt big game with a gun in New York under heavy adult supervision
  • There are 530,000 DMPs (Deer Management Permits) available this year. Any leftover DMPs will be issued on November 1st.
  • DMP Probability tables can be found here - DMP Probability and Selection Process
  • Hunting licenses will be valid from October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009.
  • In Northern New York, any unfilled 2008 deer tag may still be valid through September 30 in some areas. Check the DEC Website for regulations and more information.
  • Information about specific hunting seasons, dates, rules, regulations, and WMUs can be found here - DEC New York State Hunting

hello friends,

i am deploying to rome, ny for the next twelve months. what are the firearms restrictions in this area, if any? i use black powder and bow hunt and use my 270. will i have to take a hunter safety course? i am 46 yrs old-does ny have a set age "grandfathered"? i am also a hunter safety instructor here in ga.

john tri state area - 8/18/2008 5:47:46 PM

you watch tv and you see deer management being implimented such as state wide shot gun muzzleloader season. after a couple years they say the bucks became older wiser and scored alot higher . the area im in put in the rule of 3 points or better two seasons ago so this season i cant wait to see the progress the young bucks have made. so the question i have is why doesnt new york state implement the muzzleload and shot gun season and get rid of the rifles?
