Do You Really Know Your Gun? - Part II

I wrote this the other day, Do You Really Know Your Gun?. In short, I tried some of the 2,000 feet per second slugs on the market and they did not shoot very well. Convinced they should shoot good, I thought I had a problem with my gun as many reported awesome groupings with them. I have now talked to several people including a guy at the range the other day with a brand new Beretta Extrema2 that was not shooting those slugs well either.

The reality is, a lot of people are having a hard time getting the high flyer slugs to shoot well. Click Here for a message board post from another New York hunter using an 11-87. who had the same problems as me.

So we return to square one and Lightfield slugs rule. The only high-tech slug that I know of that seems to shoot well for almost everyone is a Lightfield. They seem to shoot really well for everyone. I gave the guy with the Beretta a box of them at the rifle range and they shot like a million dollars.

Messing around with slugs is a long winded, expensive, and challenging process. I still encourage anyone to spend more time shooting there gun before season opens. I am sure there are a lot of people out there who bought those slugs who will be disappointed. And many of them will probably not shoot their guns until 4:00 tomorrow night. Have fun!

Gun season will be upon us in 24 hours. Good luck to everyone this year and be safe!
