I live just about as far down in the state of New York as you can in the City of White Plains. I know it doesn't sound like the best place in the world to live for a hunter, but there are plenty of big bucks roaming the woods here in the Southern Zone...I just haven't shot one yet, but I continue to capture photos of them and see at least one P&Y buck each season.
I try to get out and hunt as much as possible, but these days that leaves me to the weekends which doesn't give me nearly enough time to hunt. I spend a lot of time hunting whitetails in the suburbs of Greenwich, CT for the simple fact that the deer are huge, very abundant and the season stretches from September 15 through January 31 which gives me plenty of time to learn the area, find the bucks, and get me a chance at a real bruiser. I also hunt a lot of public land in NY for deer, black bear, and turkey.
Although I grew up shotgun hunting after pheasants and rabbits, I know prefer to hunt with a bow. I had an urge to bowhunt back in 2000 and subsequently got my license, purchased a bow, and have been hooked since. I shoot all year round and hunt with a bow whenever possible.
I also maintain a website, NYBOWHUNTER.COM, discussing my adventures on DIY Public Land hunts throughout the state. You will also find talk on how I'm preparing, what went right, what went wrong and which conditions produce the best opportunities. I help you learn from my past mistakes so you don't make them on your next outing. At NYBOWHUNTER.COM we have a saying when it comes to bowhunting in NY - Accept the Challenge. Never Give Up.
