From the New York Outdoor News.
Those disappointed with doe permit numbers in New York in the last couple of deer seasons
may like this news.
Doe permits are up 13% this year from last year. 528,000 doe permits will
be released compared to 466,000 in 2007. Regions 5, 6, and 8 will see a big jump
while Region 9 will fall a little.
There is a high probability of drawing 2 DMP tags in Region 3 and Region 8.
That includes non-resident deer hunters as well.
Steve Piatt has all the details at the NYOutdoorNews article below.
DMP Allocation Up 13% Overall
The deadline for obtaining doe permits in New York is October 1, 2008. You can
get them through the DECALS system or at any Hunting license outlet - first come, first serve.
In addition, New York has handed out leftover permits in recent years around the 1st of November.
More recently, they have randomly drawn and mailed the permits. Prior to that you had to visit
an outlet.

glad to see more doe permits in the state..i hunt a privately owned farm in washington county, and i see between 9 - 17 doe every hunt...the guy who owns the land will only let my father and i hunt his land..we keep asking him to let us bring some help in, to take more of the does out..he keeps saying no..yet he keeps complaining of the over browsing problems he has....no doe permits in the same county for the last 4 seasons, including this year...good thing for the archery either sex, and muzzeloading tags....last 2 years, my dad and i figured the ratio to be 13 does to every buck..i am a freak when it comes to logging down deer sightings and movement..every rut w/ the bow its the same thing, dinky little bucks chasing does around...i do see a racker once and a while, but only w/the bow..most of the good bucks are poached from the road during bow season w/guns..dec does absolutely nothing but drive around, the tip hotline is a joke if u ask me...i now understand why washington county is known for the "scrub racks"..... extremely frustrating..
last night, a drive around the fields w/ my children and camera ( 7-8 pm ), same local area, stopped counting after 40 deer, and not one buck! not even a spike... makes me sick.. did however see lots of fawns..
