deer in New York State with the first case announced in the Spring of 2005. Both cases

Oneida County also produced positive results and, to date, five captive deer in
New York were found to have CWD.
A containment area has been established in Oneida and Madison Counties.

hunters in this area Click Here to View Regulations.
By the way, it is ILLEGAL to feed the deer in New York State. There are also strict regulations on importing deer and elk in to the State
and captive deer in elk.
CWD attacks and destroys the central nervous system in the species it infects.
While CWD shares the same characteristics of mad cow disease there is no evidence
to date that it has ever killed anything other than animals belonging to the deer
family. According to the
Wisconsin DNR
CWD has been detected in 11 States and 2 Canandian Provinces.
