8 Point (broken G2)

2008 Otsego County Buck
All the boys are on their way up Friday afternoon for opening day on Saturday, so I take off on Friday to get in one final day with the bow. I'm in the stand at 6:30 just as the sky begins to get light. It's clear, not to cold and zero wind (unlike the miserable weather for openind day). At 7:30, I hear some crashing about 60 yards away and see two large doe are running pretty hard. They make an abrupt turn onto one of the trails that crosses in front of my stand (thank God for having time to scout a good location). Still running they cross 15 yards in front of me, then stop behind a big pine about 25 yards away. No clear shot. Then they take off back the way they came, crossing right in front of me again, turn to the north, leap over a stone wall fence and off through my neighbor's field.

I know they didnt see me or smell me but something had to have made then run so I stand ready, arrow knocked, listening. Less than five minutes later Henry the Eight appears moveing at a quick trot, retracing the doe's exact path. He turns, exactly where they did, crosses in front of me, exactly where they did and stops behind the same pine. I know he wants to find them so I blow a soft grunt to get his attention. He turns instantly, comes out from behind the pine and closes within 15 yards. Thwap. He takes off and goes down about 40 yards away. First buck with the bow!

One of his tines was broken, so he's really Henry the Seven but Eight just flow better ;)
