DEC Releases 2009 Bear Harvest Numbers

New York bear hunters had their second best year ever in 2009 with 1,487 bears being taken. 814 were taken in the Adirondacks, 179 were taken in the Central-Western (Allegany), and 494 were taken in the Catskills.

Eric Dammann Plays Chicken With a Bear. And Wins!

Eric Dammann (we assume that is not his real name) came face to face with a bear at 15 yards on 11/04/08 in Orange County with his bow while looking for a doe he had just shot. The bear went up on his back legs (we gather) as the two stared each other down and Eric delivered the shot.
