Empire Hunting Survey: The Upcoming 2008 Turkey Season in New York

Scott Smith, Albion, NY, 150 class, 10 point

Empire Bucks Club Member: Mike Sinistore
Westchester County, New York,
Monday, October 29th, 2007

Green Score: 121 6/8 (we are assuming that is NET)

I set up my decoy and climbed into my stand at about 6:30 am. At 7 am five doe came by but were nervous. They wouldn't come near the decoy. After a couple of grunts one came in to investigate and I had my first deer on the ground.

Again I did some rattling and grunting, within 15 minutes a 6 pointer was shot at about 10 yards. Unbelievable as it may seem another round of rattling and grunting brought this 9 pointer within 75 yards.

A few more grunts I got myself ready and let the arrow fly. With the perfect performance from my new Hoyt bow, this buck didn't take another step. With no buck tags left, I climbed out of my stand and called my father-in-law for some help. It was a day of hunting that I will never forget. I scored the deer myself so I am not sure if I did it right but when it gets back from taxidermist I am going to get it officially scored correctly.

Yes you can shoot three bucks.

Hey Anonymous , I just learned that Weschester County is Bowhunting only so that is why you can shot more then 1 buck with a bow. Also Mike correct me if I am wrong, but since you get a bonus DMP does that mean you can shoot 3 bucks in a seasons legally in Weschester?
mike - 2/12/2008 5:25:12 PM
I still have one buck tag left and a couple of doe tags left.yes they will continue giving you doe tags as long as you shoot does. The only bad part about using my regular season buck tag in westchester county is that I can not hunt for a buck during gun season.

Since when can a bowhunter shoot 2 bucks?
HectorBuckBuster Hector - 2/12/2008 2:51:44 PM
I never heard of thr bonus DMP till I googled it out.Never heard of that before. If I read the DEC website correct. If you harvest a doe, and take it to get checked out at the DEC, they give you a bonus tag. With the bonus tag you can shot either a buck or doe.If you use you bonus tag on another doe, you can get another bonus tag, but if you tag a buck it will not be replaced. So does that mean you can get unlimited amounts of bonus tag till they run out?

Also when you shoot a doe in West. the dec. will inspect the deer head and give you another tag good for a doe or buck. becouse west. is archery only you can use your regular season buck tag.
mike - 2/12/2008 6:44:12 AM
When you buy a super sportsman you get two buck tags. one is for bow/muzzleloader the other is reguler season.Westchester county is archery only. You can use both tags in west.

Just a question that I am sure everyone else wants to ask? Where did you get 2 tags for 2 bucks?
