14 Point; 178-6/8 Gross; 173-5/8 Net;
This buck was scored by Bob Estes as a nontypical with an official gross score of 178-6/8, and a net score of 173-5/8. The bases measured at an amazing 6-3/8
and 6-6/8 inches in circumference. This deer was taken to Sam Lansing Taxidermy and aged at only 3 to 3-1/2 years of age and confirmed by senior biologist John Hauber of region 8.
I shot this monster 14 pointer on state land the day after thanksgiving Friday November 23, 2007. I was suppose to leave my house at 4am that morning but as luck would have it,
my wife had gotten sick and was up all night so I stayed home with the baby. At about 10am my wife said she was starting to feel a little better and that I should go hunting.
The truck of course was already loaded with all my hunting gear and so I left around 11am. When I arrived at hunting camp around 1pm my father and several of my relatives were
already there. They started harassing me for showing up late as soon as I walked through the door. I jokingly said "alright I am going to shoot my buck right now".
My father and I had discussed hunting this chunk of state land that we have hunted several times in the past and we have seen several nice bucks but never scored. We left camp
about 1:30 in the afternoon and drove over to the state land. I walked into the woods to an area that I have seen several deer come out of their bedding area just before dark.
At about 4pm in the afternoon I was looking straight ahead of me and all I could see was bone coming through the thicket out in front of me. I could not believe my eyes.
The buck stopped at the edge of the thicket before walking out into the open woods. I took my mind off the rack and concentrated on where I was going to shoot this animal.
The buck walked out about 10 yards from the thicket and I shot and dropped him in his tracks with my shotgun at about 50 yards. I new it was a good buck when I first saw him,
but had no idea the rack was that massive.

Wow Jamie. Nice job. Who says State land can't produce and who says you have to get out of bed at daylight? I guess you answered those questions. Congrats!
