You can use rifles to hunt deer in New York in the following Counties:
  • Allegany
  • Broome County east of the Susquehanna River.
  • Cattaraugus
  • Chemung (added in 2007)
  • Chenango
  • Columbia
  • Delaware
  • Fulton
  • Greene
  • Herkimer
  • Oneida
  • Orange
  • Oswego
  • Otsego
  • Montgomery
  • Rensselaer
  • Saratoga
  • Schoharie
  • Steuben (added in 2007)
  • Sullivan
  • Tioga
  • Ulster
  • Washington County
  • Yates (added in 2007)
All other counties are shotgun, muzzleloader, and handgun only.
