You can use rifles to hunt deer in New York in the following Counties:
- Allegany
- Broome County east of the Susquehanna River.
- Cattaraugus
- Chemung (added in 2007)
- Chenango
- Columbia
- Delaware
- Fulton
- Greene
- Herkimer
- Oneida
- Orange
- Oswego
- Otsego
- Montgomery
- Rensselaer
- Saratoga
- Schoharie
- Steuben (added in 2007)
- Sullivan
- Tioga
- Ulster
- Washington County
- Yates (added in 2007)
All other counties are shotgun, muzzleloader, and handgun only.
