Bob Johnston New York Buck
This deer was taken on the 2nd day of NY gun season around 11:30am in the Spencer NY area, was the 3rd buck I had saw, passed on the 2 smaller bucks on the first day of the season....

For those that don't know the rest of the story, Mike has touched on some of it, I got real lucky with this buck, I had had like 20 crows all morning just out the log road from my stand just going nuts making unlike any crow noises I have heard, fighting and bouncing around almost out of view from my stand, so around 11am I was cold and not really seeing much thought I would move and warm up a bit so why not go down the log road and see what all the comotion was all about....well once I got there I see what they were after, someone had killed a big doe and never tracked it out I figure it was hit sat(first day), it was a nice shot on the doe and I figure it could not of went far, but there she layed, I was alittle digusted it was going to waste and that no one had took the time to look to see if they had hit her,Hell there was snow the first 2 days on top of the hill I was hunting, so it should not been hard to track...but anyhow I stood there looking at the doe and thinking well maybe I will go back out the log road towards my stand and find a place to sit for the rest of the afternoon, just as a started to turn and gonna walk away...there he was easing down over the knoll to me about 30yds away so I turned to him and was gonna wait for him to hit the log road and shoot..but he had stopped, so I took the shot where he stood thinking he may have winded me or something..down he went...Well the luck part is that he never saw me first..timing of my walk to the doe and my decision to go back and find another place to sit, all worked out, any difference in time and he see's me and no shot would have been taken..PLUS going back to my tree stand after the shot, I would of not seen this deer(maybe the log road)coming, if I could of not heard it, I would of never seen it, and if I did it would of prolly been to late, the only shot from my stand would of been the log road, he gets past that and he's just a thought and a memory...So Luck played a BIG part of this Buck for me, it all worked out right...just wanted to share the REST of the story as they say...
Thanks.
