Bob Cuozzo New York Monster Buck
52 years of deer hunting for Bob Cuozzo. Was it worth the wait? We think so. Bob Cuozzo's 206 4/8 NET Non-Typical 19 point buck will likely be the largest buck taken with a gun in New York in 2006. In fact, it appears it will be one of the top Non-Typicals all time in New York and certainly in the last 30 years.

After downing a split brow 11 point on the opening day of Pennsylvania's deer season, Bob set his sights on getting out of the New York gun season with just a deer. He had been sitting all season and not seeing much so Bob and a companion decided to get the 2 man drives going on the morning of December 6th. After letting a doe go by a buck came up the hill at 45 yards. Bob could not tell how big he was. He only knew he was a shooter. He let the shot go from his brand new Savage 210 Bolt Action 12 Guage and the deer just disappeared. Bob circled around to a corn field to see if he could encounter him again but the buck never appeared. He went back to the spot where the deer stood, could not find any blood, but found the buck just a few yards from where he shot at it.

Bob did not realize the magnitude of the buck he took when he found it. "I never considered a buck to be a big buck unless it had a 20 inch spread so I really did not think it was all that big". He found out different when he got it off the hill.

Measurements
  • Non-Typical Gross: 212
  • Non-Typical Net: 206 4/8
  • Typical Gross: 193 5/8
  • Typical Net: 169 6/8
  • 45 inches of mass
  • 17 inch inside spread
  • Rack weighed 6 pounds
  • Deer weighed 177 pounds
The buck was estimated to be 6 1/2 years old. Neighbors in the area have sheds from the deer from the past few years but, other than that, the deer was rarely seen. Bob said, "For some odd reason he was spotted on Thanksgiving day the past three years. One guy had him in his scope last year waiting for a better shot but he never did get a shot." It must have been Bob's buck to get.

QDM is practiced on most of the property surrounding where the buck was shot. Another 140 class buck was also taken this season in the same area.

Congratulations Bob from Empire Hunting!
